About this product

Chia seeds are small black or white seeds from the Salvia hispanica plant, which is native to Mexico and Guatemala. They are known, among other things, for their rich nutritional value.

When chia seeds come into contact with liquid they form a gel-like substance, which makes them popular in smoothies, puddings and as a thickener in recipes.

How to use

Energy
Chia seeds provide a lot of energy. Make use of this by adding about 10 g of chia seeds to your yoghurt or a smoothie in the morning.

(Vegan) recipes
Chia seeds are also perfect as a binding agent in baking recipes. You can easily make a regular baking recipe vegan by replacing the milk with a plant-based milk and the eggs with a little chia seed and water. One egg can be replaced by one tablespoon of chia seeds with three tablespoons of warm water. Let it soak for about ten minutes until it becomes a gel and you have a good substitute for the egg. If you do not want the texture of the seeds in your recipe, you can chop them finely with a knife. The seeds can also be ground into a baking flour for delicious cakes, muffins or pies.

Digestion
Chia seeds are a quick way to get plenty of fibre. More than a third of the seed consists of dietary fibre, which is good for digestion and bowel movement. A nice way to use them is to stir chia seeds into jam.

Tip

For better absorption by the body it is advisable to expose the seeds to liquid. If you add them to a smoothie, yoghurt, jam or another product, let them soak for ten minutes first for the best result.
When using them in a baking recipe, it is best to make a gel first by soaking the chia seeds in lukewarm water for ten minutes, in a ratio of one part chia seeds to four parts water.

Storage advice

Store in a dark, dry place.
